Jimmy Fallon stole the show and Stephen Colbert’s award at last year’s Emmys, but this year the Outstanding Variety Talk Series category was all about Jon Stewart, who accepted his last Variety Emmy for “The Daily Show.”
The Emmys split the Variety category into Variety Sketch (winner “Inside Amy Schumer“) and Variety Talk this year, but the competition was tighter than ever. Who even knows how they picked a winner? Besides “The Daily Show,” the nominees included multiple shows with legendary hosts ending their run, e.g. “The Colbert Report” and “Late Show with David Letterman.” And the other noms included “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” “Last Week Tonight” and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” aka the shows that are constantly filling up all of our Facebook news feeds.
Stewart gave a heartfelt speech, saying he’d never work with a better group of people than he did at Comedy Central. Congrats to everyone at “The Daily Show,” and thanks Jon Stewart for giving us one final Moment of Zen.
