The artist formerly known as Ke$ha is starting a new chapter.
In an interview for the August 2014 issue of Teen Vogue, the “Timber” singer opened up about the struggles she faced before entering a rehab facility to treat an eating disorder this past January.
“Making my last record, Warrior, was a pretty miserable process, and it wore my spirit down,” the 27-year-old said. “I was fighting like hell to keep my whole irreverent essence and everything raw and visceral that I stand for in it, but in the end I was promoting something that wasn’t the animal I wanted it to be. I decided to face my problem head-on.”
On Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, the singer released a statement detailing her plan to enter a rehabilitation program.
“I’m a crusader for being yourself and loving yourself, but I’ve found it hard to practice,” she said in the statement, continuing that she hoped “learn to love [herself] again.”
The singer emerged from the program with a new outlook, dropping the dollar sign from her name, and changing her Twitter handle from Ke$haSuxx to KeshaRose.
Almost three months after her release, the star continues on the path she began in March, when she took to Twitter to update fans on her progress:
“Happy to be back! Feeling healthy & working on tons of new music,” she tweeted . “I can’t thank my fans enough for all the love & support u have given me.”
