Donald Trump may have forced him to get an early upgrade, but Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) was looking to get rid of his outdated flip phone anyway.
After Trump escalated a back-and-forth spat with his Republican rival by giving out Graham’s personal cell phone number at a campaign rally on Tuesday, the senator released a video in which he destroyed his phone through various dramatic means.
Graham’s good-humored destruction of his phone — using a golf club and a blender, among other instruments — was ostensibly a reaction to the nonstop calls he received after Trump’s sophomoric attempt to irritate him. Yet it also expedited a technological improvement that was already in the making.
The Huffington Post tagged along with Graham to shoot an episode of our original series, “’16 And President” during the senator’s recent campaign swing through Iowa.
In an exchange that we originally left on the cutting room floor, Graham was explaining that, for security reasons, the president of the United States should not use email. It was then that he offered a begrudging prediction about his own mobile device.
“There will come a day when I’m going to have to get a new phone,” he said.
That day appears to have come sooner, and a lot more publicly, than Graham had anticipated.
