Ubisoft today released the first official image of Far Cry 4‘s protagonist, a man named Ajay Ghale. Writing on Twitter, Ubisoft says Ghale is a native of Far Cry 4’s setting of Kyrat and that he is a “devoted son” and “Pagan Min’s guest of honor.”
Pagan Min is the maniac villain we got a good look at during the game’s extended demo at E3 last week. He is voiced by veteran video game voice actor Troy Baker, the man behind Joel from The Last of Us, The Joker in Batman: Arkham Origins, and Booker DeWitt in BioShock Infinite.
According to a Game Informer story from E3, Ajay Ghale is the son of Mohan Ghale, a man who launched a resistance movement against Pagan as he rose to power. Not only that, but Mohan and Pagan were also in love with the same person, a woman named Ishwari. Mohan later died and Pagan retreated into his palace, meaning Kyrat was left under the rule of crazy leaders.
Ajay Ghale then returns to Kyrat to scatter his mother’s ashes on Kyrat’s tallest mountain. But that’s only the beginning, it sounds like. “Pagan has lots to reveal about your mother,” Far Cry 4 narrative director Mark Thompson said. “Pagan has a personal connection to you that you don’t understand, and he uses that as a weapon against you. He’s fun and charming, but also terrifying–evil, but weirdly friendly. He can come talk to you very matter of factly while everyone around you is being murdered. Your whole world is falling apart, but for him it’s 11 o’clock on a Tuesday.”
Far Cry 4 launches November 18 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC. For more, check out GameSpot’s previous coverage, including our hands-on impressions from E3 last week.
