Nicki Minaj Asks MTV Why She Didn't Get More VMA Nominations

The nominees for the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards were announced on Tuesday and — though Nicki Minaj was nominated for Best Female Video and Best Hip-Hop Video for “Anaconda,” and was also nominated for Best Collaboration for “Bang Bang,” with Jessie J and Ariana Grande — the rapper wasn’t happy.

Specifically, Minaj took issue with the fact that “Anaconda” failed to garner nominations for Video of the Year and in the professional category of Best Choreography (Casper Smart was behind the video’s moves). She was also confused as to how her’s and Beyonce’s song, “Feeling Myself,” failed to be nominated for anything.

In a series of tweets, the 32-year-old laid out her issues with the VMA nominations:

Lol u guys did we miss the deadline?? #MTV? https://t.co/5yUtYZZn3m

Hey guys @MTV thank you for my nominations. Did Feeling Myself miss the deadline or…?

— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015

If I was a different “kind” of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well.

Ellen did her own anaconda video and did the #choreo lol. Remember her doing that kick . Even mtv did a post on the choreo @MTV remember?

U couldn’t go on social media w/o seeing ppl doing the cover art, choreo, outfits for Halloween…an impact like that & no VOTY nomination?

— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015

When the “other” girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination.

— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015

Ironically, I’m shooting a VIDEO today

— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015

Ok love u guys I have to get ready. Keep reppin me, do it til the death of me. X in the box. Cuz ain’t nobody checkin me

— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015

After pausing for a few hours, she took to Twitter again:

If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year

— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015

Oh but trust me. I’ll be on that stage to collect my awards for vid of the year. Feeling Myself & Anaconda.

— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015

Minaj’s tweet about videos that celebrate “women with very slim bodies” prompted Taylor Swift, who is nominated for four awards including Video of the Year for “Bad Blood” to write:

@NICKIMINAJ I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..

— Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) July 21, 2015

Minaj shot back:

Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn’t say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this. @taylorswift13

— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015

@taylorswift13 I’m still confused as to why u just tweeted me when I made it abundantly clear… pic.twitter.com/A5kJyi6fQC

— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015

But then Swift invited Minaj to join her on stage if the “Bad Blood” singer wins:

@NICKIMINAJ If I win, please come up with me!! You’re invited to any stage I’m ever on.

Minaj performed “Anaconda” at last year’s VMAs shortly after the video debuted, much to the delight of pretty much the entire Internet.
