Link’s back, and he’s bringing friends.
Nintendo announced Wednesday that the new “Legend of Zelda” game, “Tri Force Heroes,” will be released on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems — 3DS, 2DS and New 3DS — on Oct. 23. It will cost $39.99.
The game, which was previously announced in June at the E3 games conference, allows players to join forces to make their way through dungeons. Three people at a time will be able to play together via the Internet, or players can sit down locally and use the 3DS’ “Download Play” feature to enjoy the game, even if only one person actually owns the cartridge.
Zelda games are usually single-player affairs, making “Tri Force Heroes” something of a departure from the standard formula.
According to Nintendo, the Zelda franchise has sold more than 30 million games in the United States alone since its debut in 1987.
