Oscar The Grouch lives on the ever-covetable Sesame Street, yet the perpetually grumpy muppet can’t seem to escape his wastebasket lodging.
According to puppeteer Caroll Spinney, speaking as Oscar in a Wednesday conversation with HuffPost Live, that’s exactly the way Oscar wants it.
“The rents are cheap, I love trash, so I figure I can get close to it with being in a trash can myself,” he said. “What’s wrong with that?”
While viewers have long identified Oscar as being a fuzzy mop of green, the new documentary, “I Am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story,” depicts the “Sesame Street” puppet as being a different hue in the show’s earlier years.
“The first year I show myself in my true colors, which is orange. Actually, I’m still orange,” Oscar explained. “If I ever took a bath, you’d see that. This is mold and moss. [It] makes me happy.”
