Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles might only have been open in the US for a week, but Paramount has already seen enough to confirm an official release date for the sequel.
According to Deadline, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 will open in the US on 3 June 2016, with Paramount President Adam Goodman releasing an official statement regarding the future of the franchise.
“Launching a new take on the Turtles into the feature film world was a daunting task because as fans of them ourselves, we felt a great responsibility to ensure audiences were going to experience everything they loved about the Turtles, while also getting to see them brought to life in a way they had never been seen before.”
“The result exceeded our high expectations and the response to the film is beyond great, making it all the more fun to get started on the continuation of their story.”
Having opened to $65 million in its first week, TMNT hasn’t broken any records financially, but clearly the studio sees the value in an ongoing franchise over a one-off remake. In the meantime, the film will open in the UK on 17 October 2014.
