Overkill Software’s heist-themed shooter, Payday 2, is making the transition to Xbox One and PlayStation 4, publisher 505 Games announced today.
Known as Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, this updated version of the game will offer “enhanced features” and “new bonus content” to provide players with “the ultimate Payday experience.” Exactly what these features are or what the content is (including whether any of it is DLC released for existing versions) has not yet been announced. Unfortunately, neither has a release date, so we don’t yet know if this or Battlefield Hardline will be the first shooter to pit cops against robbers on Xbox One and PS4.
Payday 2 is a co-op multiplayer-focused first-person shooter that puts players in the role of criminals attempting to pull off a variety of heists. The Heat-inspired game was released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC last August, earning a 7 in GameSpot’s review. It was a strong seller for Overkill parent company Starbreeze, which was able to pull itself out of a 15-year loss thanks to the revenue generated by the shooter.
