Diamond Comics has released their sales figures for July 2014. And for a change, it was an event comic or an A-List franchise like Batman or Spider-Man that claimed the #1 spot, but Rocket Raccoon. Between the hype surrounding the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, the excitement over the idea of Skottie Young writing and drawing an ongoing series, and a hefty boost from Marvel’s partnership with Loot Crate, Rocket Raccoon #1 sold roughly 300,000 copies.
The top ten best-selling comics for July included a mix of familiar faces and a few new books. Batman #33 (the oversized finale to the Zero Year storyline) was the second best-selling issue of the month, followed by Amazing Spider-Man #4 and Original Sin #5. Grayson #1 proved the most successful of DC’s new July books, while both Spider-Man 2099 #1 and The Legendary Star-Lord #1 placed in the top ten for Marvel.
