Rooney Mara has had enough of the name-calling when it comes to women in Hollywood who speak up for equal rights.
The actress spoke with the Guardian about Jennifer Lawrence’s recent Lenny Letter essay on the Sony email hack. One revelation of the hack was that Lawrence’s male peers were being paid more than her. Another email, between Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal and producer Scott Rudin, described Angelina Jolie as a “minimally talented spoiled brat” with a “rampaging spoiled ego.”
Mara took issue with the unequal pay, but zeroed in on the disparaging comments made about Jolie while speaking to the Guardian.
“To me, the thing that’s more unfair than the pay is the terminology that’s used to describe actresses who have a point of view, and want to have a voice in their life and their career, and what they choose to do,” she said. “I’ve been called horrible things. If a man was acting in the same way that I was acting, it would just be considered normal. To me, that’s the thing I find so frustrating is calling women spoiled brats and bitches. We just want to have a voice in our life, and I don’t think that’s anything that shouldn’t be encouraged in any human.”
Preach.
