Teen Titans is a very popular franchise that is an absolute fan favorite. Unfortunately, the New 52 incarnation has seen a number of problems throughout its run. Now though, fans of the franchise have the chance to get a fresh start with a new creative team at the helm. Will Pfeifer and Kenneth Rocafort seem primed to provide that fresh start, but while there are some interesting elements introduced in this issue, an overabundance of dialogue, questionable artistic depictions, and inconsistent characterization distract from what is otherwise a clearly told and highly energetic story.
This issue does tell a very clear and simple story that also acts to set things up for the initial arc of the new series. Our bad guy is mysterious, but we know what her motivations seem to be. Another interesting mystery involves someone or something somehow taking control of technology. Not only does this cause our heroes problems in this issue, but it may only be the tip of the iceberg considering that S.T.A.R. Labs, the center of super science and technology in the DCU, is the target of our villain. While this is all well and good, there are an unfortunate amount of problems as well.
