While attending FOX’s recent Television Critics Association presentation, we had the chance to chat with actors Robin Lord Taylor and Cory Michael Smith about their roles as the young Penguin and Riddler, respectively, on the network’s Batman prequel series Gotham.

Here’s what the men who would be two of Batman’s biggest archenemies had to say about the series, set to debut this fall.

IGN TV: So when they came to you with the role of the Penguin, what ran through your mind?

Robin Lord Taylor: Honestly, it was just an audition that I was submitted on by my agent, like any other pilot season, and it was a dummy side. So they didn’t give me any of the scripts.
