Thanks to strong ratings, FX is renewing The Strain for a 13-episode second season.

The Strain is only halfway through its first season, but that hasn’t stopped FX from green-lighting the TV series for a second year, Deadline reports. The season premiere of the Guillermo del Toro (Pacific Rim, Hellboy) and Carlton Cuse (Lost) vampire drama drew 4.73 million viewers, with 2.43 million from the 18 to 49 age range. The Strain is the No. 1 new series on cable this year for adults in that demographic.

Factoring in video on demand and online viewing, The Strain is averaging 11 million viewers weekly. Needless to say, FX is quite pleased with the results, and so is del Toro.
