This Is What Happens When 'Game Of Thrones' Meets 'The O.C.'

Warning: This post contains spoilers. Don’t read if you haven’t seen “Game of Thrones” Season 4, Episode 9, “The Watchers on the Wall.”

This is the mashup we never knew we wanted.

The latest installment of “Game of Thrones” saw a battle of epic proportions take place at the poorly reinforced Castle Black. There were giants, mammoths and plenty of wildlings thirsting for some good ol’ fashioned revenge, not the least of whom was Ygritte, Jon Snow’s former lover who’s been on a season-long quest to prove that whole “woman scorned” theory. The fiery redhead finally got her chance in this latest episode, but before she could pull the trigger — more specifically, loose the arrow — orphan Ollie (formerly the cutest member of the Night’s Watch, presently its proudest stone-cold killer) finished her off with a perfectly-placed shot to the chest.

There’s been a poor attempt at a Bon Jovi-themed supercut, but the true genius is the Youtube user who, during that pivotal scene, saw a reference to the angst-ridden melodrama of our youth. The series that followed a young man from Chino as he befriended a rich Orange County kid and struggled to fit in with his newly-adopted family. Yes, we’re talking about that other iconic television show, “The O.C.”

The death of Jon Snow’s woman is eerily similar to how Trey met his end on the California narrative, which ultimately means orphan Ollie is Marissa Cooper in this doomed love triangle. Still don’t get it? Take a look at both of the videos below to see how “GoT” got their inspiration for that heartbreaking scene from one of the greatest teen dramas of all time:
