“Two and a Half Men” actress Holland Taylor opened up about her sexuality in a recent interview and revealed that she’s in a long-term relationship with another woman.
The 72-year-old star, who nabbed a 2013 Tony Award nomination for her solo Broadway play, “Ann,” made the revelation when WNYC’s Anna Sale asked her if she’d ever consider marrying in the Nov. 25 interview.
“My relationship is with a woman,” Taylor said, “Given my generation, [marriage] would not be something that would automatically occur to me. But she’s mentioned it because just from a spiritual point of view, from a heart point of view, as a deed that has a very rich symbolic gesture to it.”
Taylor did not reveal the identity of her girlfriend, but nonetheless specified, “There’s a very big age difference between us which I’m sure shocks a lot of people, and it startles me.” She was also quick to clarify that this was not a coming out moment for her because she was already living open and authentically.
“I’ve been really wrestling with this lately, because most of my relationships have been with women and I don’t like talking about them because I don’t like talking about the politics of it all because I’m not political about it,” she said. “I think we’re ridiculous in this country about it … And so, it’s awkward because if I talk about relationships in my life or people that have been in my life, or somebody I’ve been seeing for a while or this, that and the other thing, I’d like to be able to just say that, without having to stop and say, ‘So have you come out?’ No, I haven’t come out because I am out. I live out.”
Taylor went on to describe marriage as “a wonderful thing to do,” but fans shouldn’t expect wedding bells for her and her girlfriend anytime soon. If the couple eventually opts to tie the knot, they won’t be holding any press conferences about the union, either.
“It would be a very private thing. I would not do that publicly,” she said.
While this could be the first time the famously private Taylor’s opened up about her sexuality to the media, her “Two and a Half Men” character, Evelyn Harper, was bisexual. She also starred opposite Reese Witherspoon in “Legally Blonde” and as Peggy Peabody on Showtime’s “The L Word.”
