We are excited to exclusively reveal a preview for Strife’s upcoming web comic. The comic is written by Chad LaForce, Strife’s creative director, with art by LaForce and Samuel Donato. Click through our slideshow gallery to take a look.
Strife is a “second generation” MOBA that envisions itself as a more casual and fun MOBA experience than the ultra-competitive DOTA 2 and League of Legends.
We spoke with LaForce about the new web comic. Hear what he had to say, then let us know your thoughts in the comments!
IGN Comics: How does the Strife comic tie into the story that you’re telling with the game?
Chad LaForce: Well, they’re one in the same in the sense that the comic is meant to — you know, when you’re playing the MOBA, there’s movement in animation, there are lines in the game. We have gone out of our way to put certain aspects of the lore into the map itself. There’s actually quite a bit of richness there, but you don’t necessarily get a story experience when you’re playing a MOBA. There’s the combat experience, which is great, but we did have in our sights set from the beginning with Strife that we didn’t want to just have a lore that attracted people to the game; we wanted a lore that took itself seriously, that was created certainly to go hand-in-hand with the game, but was created to even stand by itself, to create a story in a world — or a series of worlds, as we have — where the story itself is compelling, whether it has anything to do with the game. It’s a rich story. It has layers. It has history, and it takes itself seriously.
