What Were the Best-Selling Comics of May 2014?

Diamond Comics has released its sales figures for May 2014. While Marvel again knocked Batman out of his usual perch atop the best-selling comics, the divide between Marvel and DC’s market share shrunk significantly last month.

Marvel claimed 34.38% retail market share and 36.46% unit share in May. DC had 30.04% retail share and 33.52% unit share. As expected, the long-delayed release of comics like Forever Evil #7 and Justice League #30 helped DC regain lost ground. Image remained steady with 8.86% retail share and 9.96% unit share.

Original Sin #1 was the best-selling comic of May. That was followed by Amazing Spider-Man #2 and Amazing Spider-Man #1.1 in the second and third spots, respectively. Batman #31 was DC’s best-selling comic in fourth place, followed by Forever Evil #7 in fifth. Both Batman Eternal #5 and New 52: Futures End #1 also made the top ten, suggesting DC’s latest weekly projects are a success so far. And the appearance of The Walking Dead #127 in the top ten proves that series remains a top-seller evenafter the “All Out War” storyline.
