DC’s Batman Eternal panel is one of several Batman-themed events going on at SDCC this week. This particular panel focused on current events driving the Batman franchise in the New 52. In attendance at the panel were Batman and Batman Eternal writer Scott Snyder, Batman and Robin writer Pete Tomasi and artist Patrick Gleason, Detective Comics co-writer Brian Buccellato, Batman/Superman writer Greg Pak, Batwoman writer Marc Andreyko, and Batman Group Editor Mark Doyle. *phew*
Snyder kicked things off by discussing the recent finale to his yearlong Zero Year storyline. He said that the final issue was about examining the lessons Alfred had taught Bruce throughout the story, and then having Bruce teach Alfred a lesson in return. He described that relationship as being very personal to both he and artist Greg Capullo. Zero Year was also inspired by what Snyder sees as the fears of living in a modern city and his own experiences living in New York. Snyder described the next story arc (Endgame) as a thank-you to readers and possibly his favorite arc on Batman to date.
