While “Fifty Shades Of Grey” fans might not be surprised to see Anastasia Steele donning a full bush in the upcoming film adaptation, those unfamiliar may be taken aback — after all, when was the last time a big blockbuster included a female sporting such a look? According to the film’s director Sam Taylor-Johnson, the decision to keep Steele’s pubic hair intact was a “conscious choice,” enacted by she and the film’s lead, Dakota Johnson, as a plot device.

“Dakota and I had a very funny discussion about the arc and journey of her pubic hair,” she told HuffPost Live on Monday. “That she should start one way and she goes on this journey with it and in line with how it’s written in the book — [the] journey of that.”

“Fifty Shades of Grey” hits theaters this Friday, Feb. 13.
