David Fincher’s Gone Girl adaptation has released a new trailer online, in which Ben Affleck’s seemingly model husband begins to feel the pressure when his wife goes missing on their wedding anniversary.

With much of the action taking place in claustrophobic, murky darkness, this latest trailer plays up the predicament that Affleck’s character finds himself in, as the investigation into his wife’s disappearance begins to expose some worrying cracks in their marriage.

Indeed, it seems that Nick Dunne is actually quite a far cry from the perfect husband… but does that necessarily mean he killed his wife?

It seems as though Fincher was the perfect fit for the material, with the director bringing more than a touch of Se7en‘s visual aesthetic to proceedings. Shout-out to Neil Patrick Harris meanwhile, who is on supremely creepy form here…

Co-starring Rosamund Pike, Kim Dickens and Scoot McNairy, Gone Girl will open in the UK on 3 October 2014.
