The first trailer has arrived online for Wild, the adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s remarkable memoir, starring Reese Witherspoon as the author’s on-screen counterpart.
The film picks up with Strayed at a crisis point in her life, following the breakdown of her marriage and the death of her mother. Having lost all hope, she makes the drastically rash decision to hike more than 1000 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail… alone.
Needless to say, it’s a treacherous journey for even the most seasoned hiker, but in the face of such physical challenges, Strayed begins to come to terms with where she’s at in her life.
Take a look at the new trailer, below…
The film looks as though it will jump back and forth between Strayed’s former life, and the new journey she finds herself on, which promises quite the showcase for Witherspoon’s talents. From what we’ve seen here, it looks like the role of a lifetime.
Directed by Dallas Buyers Club helmer Jean-Marc Vallée, and co-starring Laura Dern, Michiel Huisman and Gaby Hoffman, Wild will open in the UK on 23 January 2015.
