If you’re thinking of calling up old high school pals to reconnect, you may think twice after watching the trailer for “The Gift.” Jason Bateman plays a newly married homeowner who runs into an old acquaintance named Gordo (Joel Edgerton, also making his directorial debut). Gordo does not want to leave Bateman and his wife (Rebecca Hall) alone, and what unfolds after he is asked not to contact them again is full-on stalker territory. Secrets are revealed, people are panicking and we are getting chills. There’s even an ominous game of Simon Says, and you know that is nothing but terrifying. “The Gift” opens in wide release on July 31.
