Xbox One: This Is How GIFs Work

Microsoft has published a video showing how animated GIFs will work on Xbox One when support for the format–and more than two dozen others–comes to the console in the months ahead. As you can see in the video, all you need to do is access the GIF from an external USB drive (or presumably another source) and you are good to go.

Microsoft’s video, posted by Xbox Live programming director Larry “Major Nelson ” Hryb, shows off the popular Antonio Banderas GIF from the 1995 movie Assassins. Interestingly, Naughty Dog–a Sony studio–modified this same GIF to promote The Last of Us last year.

Support for GIFs is just one of the many new features coming to Xbox One through the August system update and future revisions. Microsoft also plans to add DLNA support, a boot-to-TV option, and a live TV miniguide, among other new features, down the road.
